After months of preparation, the 10th edition of the Greenport International U14 Tournament kicked off last Friday afternoon with the flag parade.

The opening ceremony on Friday afternoon was conducted by Westland alderman for sports, Anko Goudswaard, and the newly appointed youth chairman of FC ’s-Gravenzande, Robin van Westenbrugge. After the flag parade, our famous mascot Scotty handed the match ball to the alderman, who placed it on the center spot to officially start the tournament. Each team played two matches on the opening day.

On Saturday, the tournament continued with each team playing four matches. The highlight of the day came during the tournament break, with a match between the Feyenoord Legends and the Legends of FC ’s-Gravenzande. Feyenoord was represented by well-known players such as Ali Boussaboun, Gill Swerts, and Karim El Ahmadi. In front of a large crowd, an exciting game unfolded, narrowly won 1-2 by the Rotterdam side.

On Sunday, the tension reached its peak. Teams had to secure the best possible result in their final group-stage match to create a favorable position for the semifinals. The battle for third place was between Atlanta United and FC Utrecht, with Utrecht narrowly taking the win 0-1. The final saw PSV Eindhoven face Royal Antwerp FC. The game remained tight for a long time, but in the closing stages PSV found the net, claiming their second title in the history of the tournament, having also won in 2022.

During the well-attended award ceremony, all teams received a trophy, while players of the top three teams were each awarded a medal. The Fair Play Cup went to Sparta Rotterdam. The award for best goalkeeper was given to Isaac Weale of Chelsea, and the prize for best player also went to Chelsea’s Khalil Margues Mitchel.
